Problem of Rayleigh Wave Propagation in Thermoelastic Diffusion

In this work, the problem of Rayleigh wave propagation is considered in the context of the theory of thermoelastic diffusion. The formulation is applied to a homogeneous isotropic thermoelastic half space with mass diffusion at the stress free, isothermal, isoconcentrated boundary. Using the potential functions and harmonic wave solution, three coupled dilatational waves and a shear wave is obt...

Propagation of coupled Rayleigh-gravity waves on the ocean floor

It is shown that the Ocean-Earth crust interface can propagate gravity-sound Rayleigh waves. Dispersion properties of waves and flux of energy are derived. It is shown that the waves split into low and fast velocity branches. The fast branch has a multimode structure and has a cutoff in frequency and wave number. Numerical solutions are discussed.

Source and Propagation Effects of Rayleigh Waves From

A reference point equalization method has been developed which enables 'the separation of source and propagation effects of surface waves. The method works on seismic events located in a small source region, which allows us to assume that all events share the same path effects to a given receiver. Two important steps in the method are initialization and iteration. Initialization obtains the fir...

Localization of Rayleigh waves

We study the localization of Rayleigh waves propagating in a semi-infinite and isotropic medium with inhomogeneities that are modeled as rods parallel to the incoming wave front and are distributed randomly up to a maximum depth. For a perfectly smooth surface, the localization length of a Rayleigh wave is predicted to reach a minimum at intermediate wavelength l and to diverge for both low and...
